Carpentier a travs de su prosa nos lleva por Hait en los aos de mucha inestabilidad poltica. Con su tcnica denominada como lo "real-maravilloso" describe escenarios nicos en esta isla caribea con un toque sobre-natural o mstico (similar al realismo mgico). A travs de la novela hay muchas referencias a los "orishas"... - , , "" - - , - , , "" - - , , - transcendence... ...* - - , - , , - , ...
